Ciro Immobile commented on Chelsea forward Romelu Lukaku’s probable return to Inter, suggesting that the Belgian would raise the level of Serie A.

The Nerazzurri are currently deep in negotiations with the Blues for Lukaku and a deal is on the verge of being fully agreed, with the player expected to take his medicals in Milan at some time next week. The 29-year-old Belgian forward scored 64 goals in 95 appearances for Inter in his first two years in Italy.

Speaking on the sidelines of the Sportsman of the Year award ceremony, Immobile discussed his goalscoring stats and the return of Lukaku to Serie A.

“I don’t think about records. I will certainly realise the extent of what I have done in the world of football once I stop playing. It’s clear that we mustn’t rest or give up.

“With Lukaku back in Italy, the level of our league is raised, I will have to continually do my best. Now I only have the next objectives in my head.”

Things did not go well for Lukaku following his €115m move from Inter to Chelsea last summer; he only scored eight goals in 26 Premier League appearances and caused controversy after a misguided interview with Sky Sports Italia, where he explicitly expressed his love for the Nerazzurri.
