Lazio captain Ciro Immobile is reportedly preparing to take legal action after he and his family were ‘verbally and physically’ targeted outside his son’s school according to reports in Italy.
According to reports on Friday afternoon, Immobile, alongside his wife Jessica and his four-year-old son were ‘verbally and physically attacked’ by a group of people in front of their child’s school building in Rome.
The agency Scarlott Company released a statement on Immobile’s behalf condemning the incident.
The statement, as reported by Calcio e Finanza and others, suggested that the media are partly to blame for the abuse that Immobile and his family suffered.
It is alleged that the incident came about after “incitement to hatred carried out and supported by some of the press, media and journalists, who spread words of hatred towards Ciro Immobile through their social media channels.”
It has been confirmed that Immobile will pursue legal action against the individuals involved in the incident outside the school.
It has been a testing fortnight for Lazio, who were eliminated at the Champions League round of 16 stage by reigning Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich last Tuesday, before suffering a 2-1 loss to Udinese in Serie A, which proved to be the final nail for coach Maurizio Sarri, who handed in his resignation on Tuesday.
The Biancocelesti are tipped to appoint Igor Tudor as Sarri’s replacement.
