Ciro Immobile confessed a two-year Italy drought “was weighing on me,” but he broke it in tonight’s 2-1 victory in Finland.

The Lazio striker nodded in a Federico Chiesa cross during the Euro 2020 qualifier in Tampere, his first Azzurri goal since September 5, 2017.

“It was weighing on me so much, not scoring with this jersey. So much has been said over the last two years, but I was calm and knew my moment would come,” Immobile told Rai Sport.

“People always tried to cause controversy around me, including with the Coach, but there was no issue there. I had a bad spell with Lazio towards the end of last season too, so it’s not as if I was going to make the difference for Italy then either.

“It wasn’t easy to get a victory here, but after the disappointment of the World Cup, we are back on track with Italy.

“I dedicate the goal to my wife, who just gave birth, to my family and all those who stayed close to me.”
