Lazio striker Ciro Immobile has released a statement via his lawyer reaffirming he ‘behaved correctly’ during the car crash, after a tram driver insists he did not run a red light.
The collision happened this morning in Rome, when Immobile was travelling in his SUV along with two of his daughters.
It was so powerful a crash that the tram was knocked off its railings and had to be towed back on, while the car was wrecked.
Immobile was hospitalised with whiplash and a compound fracture of the 11th rib.
There is confusion over precisely what happened, as both Immobile and the tram driver insist they had the green light to go ahead before the collision.
With this in mind, the Italy international released a statement via his Instagram Stories on behalf of his lawyer.
“The thoughts of my client Ciro Immobile, who is shaken over what happened today, go to his two daughters and to the driver of the tram, who he hopes will have a quick recovery.
“Relieved that nobody suffered serious injuries, aware in this moment that he behaved correctly, he has full trust in the authorities who are completing their investigation.”
There ought to be CCTV footage of the incident that should throw some light on what happened.
Meanwhile, it is reported Immobile will be out of action for at least a couple of weeks, which would see him miss Serie A matches against Torino and Inter.
