Lazio striker Ciro Immobile says he “misses” being on the pitch and that coach Simone Inzaghi is a “European” style tactician.

Immobile gave a lengthy interview to Il Corriere dello Sport on an array of topics, and spoke about how the Coronavirus is affecting life in Italy.

“It’s very difficult to train at home because you find yourself working alone. I miss the ball so much, my teammates, the matches, the fun of our job,” Immobile told the Roman daily.

“It’s complicated, but we try to do our best because we have to keep fit in some way.

“Every now and then I run on the terrace. We miss the pitch because it is our life, I spent a lifetime on pitches. Every now and then I play with the ball, the one I brought home after scoring the hat-trick against Sampdoria, and I start dribbling, but it’s not the same thing.”

Immobile has thrived under the stewardship of Simone Inzaghi, and the strker says that he’s the ideal coach.

“He has kept the Italian tactics and the habits for attention. He also kept the studying of videos to prepare for games, but when we do exercises it’s always with the ball.

“He’s brought movement and dynamism to training, less athletic work without the ball. He’s become a coach with a European outlook.”

Euro 2020 was officially postponed last week, but Immobile says it was the right call.

“Postponing the tournament to 2021 was a painful choice, but it was obvious with the suspension of the leagues, it would’ve been too difficult to keep the tournament in place. There would’ve been too many games.

“I am sorry because we have prepared well in these last two years with Roberto Mancini.

“My greatest regret with Italy is not making it to the 2018 World Cup. However we still have the European Championships to redeem ourselves.”

Immobile was then asked on his most beautiful goal for Lazio.

“If I had to pick, it would be the headed goal against Milan at San Siro earlier this season.

“I liked it not only for the meaning and for what the goal achieved, but it was beautiful in its execution. Manuel Lazzari’s cross and the twisting movement. Heading was never my speciality.”
