Ciro Immobile relished ‘an incredible feeling’ as Lazio marked their first Champions League game in 13 years by beating Borussia Dortmund 3-1.

The striker scored one and set up another for Jean-Daniel Akpa-Akpro, while Luiz Felipe’s header was deflected in from a corner.

“It was an incredible feeling, as after so many years to take this club back into the Champions League, there was that extra special flavour.

“It was an incredible feeling, as after so many years to take this club back into the Champions League, there was that extra special flavour.

“We played a perfect game and are enormously satisfied with the performance,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“We were up against a strong side and a very tough opponent, but we needed a match like this after Saturday to really get us on track and prove we could have our say this season too.

“If we step on to the field with the right determination and focus, then we can beat even a team like Borussia Dortmund. It’s a balanced group, as Brugge beat Zenit, so we’ll see what happens.”

German media were very harsh on Immobile when he was at Borussia Dortmund, calling him their worst ever signing.

“I always said that I arrived in Dortmund at the wrong time of my career and of the team’s generational shift. I don’t want to say anything against critics, as I pay close attention to everything. I know when I deserve praise or criticism.

“I missed a goal, I will miss more, but I hope to score many more than I miss for Lazio and the Nazionale.”
