Ciro Immobile was feeling positive after scoring in Lazio’s 3-0 win over Spezia, his first goal in almost two months.

The Biancocelesti captain gave his side a 1-0 lead in the first half after calmly dispatching a penalty, putting his team on track to secure another vital three points in their chase of Champions League qualification.

It’s not been an easy year for Immobile, who’s struggled with muscle injuries for large parts of this season, starting just 20 of the 30 league games this campaign.

Speaking to Sky Sports Italia after the match, Immobile first discussed his goal and Lazio’s win over Spezia.

“I missed scoring this year, it was such an eventful year due to injuries. The team has made up for my absence many times and I promised them that in this last part of the season I will give my best to help them. We have put a lot of things right from a defensive point of view.

“The quality has always been there, now we are expressing it at our highest level, and we try to do it match after match. We are doing everything the coach tells us, the approach has not been the best.  Spezia are fighting point by point to save themselves from relegation, it wasn’t easy.”

The 33-year-old Italian striker then commented on his battles with injuries this season.

“I have to get myself right physically, then I’ll go a thousand an hour like I’ve always done. I can’t give up my being. It was just an unlucky season due to my ankle, when you start with injuries you never finish. But you don’t give up.”

Finally, Immobile was asked about Maurizio Sarri’s decision to bring him off in the 69th minute of the match.

“Against Juve I had given everything, today I had some more, then the coach decided to take me off. And then Pedro came on, not just anyone, so that’s good.”

The 33-year-old Immobile has now scored 11 goals in 29 appearances across all competitions this season for the Biancocelesti.
