Ciro Immobile admits he cried at the final whistle of Lazio’s dramatic 3-2 Super Cup win over Juventus. “This team gave absolutely everything.”

The striker bagged a brace to put his side 2-0 up, only for a late Paulo Dybala double to send them towards extra time, until a last-gasp Alessandro Murgia winner.

“I am struggling to keep a lid on my emotions right now,” Immobile told Lazio Style Radio.

The striker bagged a brace to put his side 2-0 up, only for a late Paulo Dybala double to send them towards extra time, until a last-gasp Alessandro Murgia winner.

“I am struggling to keep a lid on my emotions right now,” Immobile told Lazio Style Radio.

“I cried at the end of the game, because this team gave absolutely everything and the fans deserved this trophy. It’s in my personality to be generous and go all-in, my wife tells me the same, and when I play, I try to make sure I hold nothing back. I don’t like losing.

“As we saw last season, if the team plays like this, then I too benefit as a striker. I couldn’t believe it when I scored that header! Between Medhi Benatia and Giorgio Chiellini, who are both really strong in the air, and I don’t really score many headers.

“The staff and the Coach worked so well to prepare us for this game and we interpreted it perfectly. It was an exceptional performance from everyone.

“Tonight we sent an important signal and want to knock down that taboo about teams in their second season.”
