Ciro Immobile is convinced he and Mario Balotelli can combine as a strike pair for Italy in the future.

Despite calls for Cesare Prandelli to pair the two forwards together during this summer’s World Cup in Brazil, the former CT only did so in the Azzurri’s final match against Uruguay.

Speaking to La Repubblica, the Dortmund man also explained his international teammate’s behaviour in the immediate aftermath of that match, when he reportedly sat on the team bus alone while Prandelli was announcing his resignation.

“During a moment of despair, Mario went off to the bus,” Immobile said. “He hadn’t realised that the boss had to talk, then he came back.

“We have different personalities and characteristics, but we can play together.”

Immobile also commented on former Torino teammate Alessio Cerci.

“Cerci? I sent him my congratulations after the Tweet announcing his transfer to Atletico Madrid, but then he explained to me it was fake!”
