Immobile closing in on 200 Serie A goals after latest milestone

Ciro Immobile is tipped to start up front for Lazio against Hellas Verona on Saturday afternoon, where he will look to close in on a landmark 200th career goal in Serie A.

To date, the 33-year-old has netted on 198 occasions in the Italian top flight from his spells with Genoa, Torino and Lazio. He recently passed 200 goals in all competitions for the Biancocelesti as well.

The haul of 198 is enough to place him eighth on the list of all-time top goalscorers in Serie A, behind Silvio Piola, Francesco Totti, Gunnar Nordahl, Giuseppe Meazza, Jose Altafini, Antonio Di Natale and Roberto Baggio.

Totti, Di Natale and Baggio are the only players on that list to have reached the Serie A 200 club after the turn of the 21st century.

With his latest league strike, a first half penalty during the 2-1 loss to Salernitana, Immobile set a new record, becoming the first player to score 100 Serie A goals away from home.

Reaching 200 league goals against Verona on Saturday would make a welcomed change in fortunes for Lazio, who have not scored more than one goal in a league game since the 2-0 victory over Sassuolo at the end of October.
