The dispute between Urbano Cairo and Ciro Immobile continues as the Granata President insists he feels 'betrayed' by the striker, who was defended by an official statement from Lazio.

The forward accused Cairo of 'serious, defamatory insults' after Lazio-Torino on Tuesday, with the Granata President, who responded on Wednesday morning.

The Granata President had allegedly accused Immobile and Lazio of being too competitive during the game, given that the Biancocelesti had already reached their target this season, while Torino needed one point to gain survival.

Cairo released a new interview on Wednesday afternoon with the radio program Tutti Convocati.

"Immobile and I were on good terms, I felt attached to him and I was disappointed when he left Torino for the second time without telling me anything," Cairo said.

"I felt like a betrayed lover, he was my pupil. We've met many times during the years and I always complimented him."

Lazio released an official statement saying Cairo overreacted last night.

"Last night at the Olimpico, some very serious things happened and Lazio cannot ignore them," the official statement reads.

"President Urbano Cairo's reaction was out of proportion and violated the rules of loyalty and fairness.

"Somebody will have to take responsibility for what happened as nobody can afford to have such behaviour, especially at our home.

"Lazio showed the truth, starting from Ciro Immobile who honoured the game with the maximum commitment. That's what football is about, even if somebody thought otherwise and hoped for something different. That's not our football, and it will never be.

"For this reason, we will defend our captain and our club from the defamatory accusations in the appropriate fora.

"Our season has been accompanied by continue defamations that affected the image and the results of Lazio and we won't allow it again."
