Ciro Immobile’s agent is furious at the ‘unfair criticism’ the Lazio and Italy striker has received after his UEFA EURO 2020 performances.

He is still expected to start the Final against England on Sunday at Wembley Stadium.

“I hear people talk about strikers of the past who in their entire careers scored a fifth of the goals Ciro has, and I am starting to find it really irritating,” Alessandro Moggi told Radio Radio.

“Ciro Immobile has nothing more to prove, he already showed so much throughout his career and objectively is the most prolific Italian forward of the last few years.”

The 31-year-old centre-forward has found the net 15 times in 51 senior caps for Italy, but that pales in comparison to his performances for Lazio.

He won the Golden Boot award as Europe’s top league scorer in 2019-20, grabbing 36 goals in 37 Serie A appearances.

“It makes me angry, because if Immobile scores two goals per game, it’s treated as the norm and nobody makes a big deal of it, but if for any reason he doesn’t get the ball in the net, he becomes the main problem of the Italy squad. We’ve been reading this for years now,” continued the agent.

“Then I read journalists bring up the names of forwards who scored 30-40 goals in their whole careers and yet are treated as those who could improve Italy’s performances, that suggests to me some people have an ulterior motive. It really irritates me.”

Immobile has seven goals in his last 13 appearances for Italy.

The 2020-21 campaign was slightly less prolific for Immobile at club level, as he got 20 goals in 36 Serie A appearances, rising to 25 in 41 competitive matches.

These include five goals in his five Champions League games for the Aquile.
