There was nothing but praise in the Italian media for Salernitana goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa following his work in the 1-1 draw with Inter, where he made 10 saves to deny the Nerazzurri.
It was another disappointing and frustrating game for Simone Inzaghi’s squad, who only managed to pick up a point after an unexpected wondergoal from Antonio Candreva in the dying minutes salvaged a draw for the home side.
Despite his sensational striker, Candreva was not the best on the pitch for Salernitana, as goalkeeper Ochoa had another incredible performance in between the sticks, making 10 saves and conceding just one goal despite facing 2.57 expected goals on target.
La Gazzetta dello Sport highlighted the decisive work of the Mexican shot stopper, simply commenting: “It would be another story without him.”
Corriere dello Sport noted how the statistics don’t accurately reflect the impressive display put on by Ochoa, saying: “Ten saves, nine on shots inside the box, and the numbers don’t give enough credit to the extraordinary saves.”
Tuttosport laid the compliments on the 37-year-old World Cup staple, impressed with his performance, noting: “’He made 10 saves, including a miracle on De Vrij and a few shots from Gato. Decisive, immense.”
