Stoke City midfielder Giannelli Imbula will be in Italy on Friday for his Lecce medical, completing a transfer worth €4m.

Sportitalia are confident the deal is done and the player will be accompanied by his father and agent to work out the final details.

It will be a loan with option to buy that becomes an obligation if Lecce secure their Serie A safety and he plays for at least 45 minutes in 25 different games.

Imbula had been the subject of a bidding war between Inter and Milan only a few years ago, but recently confessed the move to Stoke had been “a mistake.”

Lecce are newly-promoted to Serie A and lost their opening game of the season, 4-0 away to Inter.
