Samuel Iling-Junior will start for Juventus against Atalanta, becoming the first Englishman to kick off a match with the Old Lady in three decades.

The 19-year-old Islington-born winger joined the Bianconeri from Chelsea’s youth system in September 2020 in a deal worth around €130,000, jumping at the chance to continue his development abroad.

Iling-Junior was promoted to the Juventus first team by Massimiliano Allegri this season, making his debut in a 4-0 win over Empoli back in October. He also made his debut in the Champions League, providing an assist in the 4-3 loss to Benfica.

As highlighted by Giuseppe Pastore, Iling-Junior’s start for Juventus against Atalanta is the first time in 30 years that an Englishman has kicked off with the Bianconeri. The last player to do so was David Platt in a 4-1 win over Lazio on June 6 1993.

The 19-year-old signed a new contract with the Bianconeri back in December, tying him to the club to June 2025.
