La Gazzetta dello Sport claims Josip Ilicic will return to the Atalanta training ground on Monday after six weeks in Slovenia dealing with a personal matter.
The creative midfielder missed practically all of their season after the lockdown, including the Champions League quarter-final against Paris Saint-Germain.
Coach Gian Piero Gasperini said only this week that Ilicic is “not currently part of the squad” and he didn’t know when the player would return.
Now the report states the Slovenian is on his way back to the training ground in Bergamo as early as Monday, suggesting he is already in Italy.
Ilicic has not played since the 2-2 draw with Juventus on July 11, as initially it was reported to be a muscular problem, but then he returned to Slovenia to be near his family.
Atalanta have always been very clear that the reasons for his difficulties are personal and private, so should be left at that.
