Serie A has been named the best league in the world for 2023 by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics, with the English Premier League in second place.
The IFFHS uses a series of calculations and statistics to make its ranking and the Premier League has been second in six of the last seven years, only topping the statistics in 2019.
However, the Italian league leaps above them to be crowned the strongest league in the world for the 12th time since the IFFHS ranking was launched in 1991.
Spain’s LaLiga is in third, with Brazilian Serie A in fourth, followed by the German Bundesliga, French Ligue 1 and Portuguese Primeira Liga.
In 2022, the Brazilian Serie A had been in first place.
It is a huge jump for Calcio, which had been fifth in 2022, but received a massive boost from Italian teams reaching the Final of the Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League.
There were also three Italian teams in the Champions League semi-finals.
