Daniele De Rossi admits he would accept Juventus winning the Champions League if it meant Roma lifting the Scudetto.

The Giallorossi moved to within four points of the top of Serie A with a dramatic late victory over Cagliari yesterday evening.

Speaking following the decision to allow Federico Fazio’s last gasp winner to stand, the Stadio Olimpico captain said he would be more than happy to see the Old Lady lift their third European crown if his side win their third domestic one.

Speaking following the decision to allow Federico Fazio’s last gasp winner to stand, the Stadio Olimpico captain said he would be more than happy to see the Old Lady lift their third European crown if his side win their third domestic one.

“I would sign for that immediately,” De Rossi told reporters.

“I think it is Buffon’s last season, it would be nice if he could finish with that.

“But as long as we are in the Champions League, I won’t be supporting Juve.

“If you gave me a deal for Roma to be Champions of Italy and Juventus to win the Champions League, I would sign it immediately.”

The VAR system was once again at the centre of controversy during last night’s nervy 1-0 win over Cagliari.

It was used to overturn a yellow card for Edin Dzeko for simulation, with a penalty awarded to Roma instead.

Although Diego Perotti missed the spot-kick, the Giallorossi got their winner through Fazio’s late intervention, although technology was once again consulted before it was decided the centre-back had not intentionally handled the ball.

“We saw that they were using the VAR,” De Rossi said of the dramatic late events.

“We didn’t understand why their players were protesting. Those 20-30 seconds lasted an eternity.

“It would have been two points lost, we are happy. When you get wins like this, it gives you something extra from an emotional point of view.

“Hopefully the teams ahead of us lose points. The Italian League is close, we are all up there.

“If we win our game in hand we are only one point behind Napoli. Winning this match was very important for us.”
