‘Icardi situation not ideal’

Argentina CT Lionel Scaloni admits Mauro Icardi’s situation at Inter ‘isn’t convenient for us’ but insists he could be called up for Copa America.

Icardi was dropped from the latest Argentina squad after he went 36 days without training or playing for Inter, but the striker ended his exile on Thursday.

“I talked to Mauro before releasing the squad and I explained to him why he wasn’t called up,” Scaloni said at a Press conference.

“What’s happening to him directly concerns the national team. Between now and Copa America, we’ll weigh up what’ll happen and see if we call him up or not.

“Naturally, it’s clear that what’s happening with him right now isn’t convenient for us.”

In the meantime, Icardi’s clubmate Lautaro Martinez will partner Barcelona’s Lionel Messi in attack for the Albiceleste’s friendly against Venezuela on Friday.
