Called for by Pope Francis, this event was organised by the Scholas Occurentes initiative and Javier Zanetti’s Pupi Foundation, to promote a diplomatic solution to the ongoing crisis in Gaza.
A friendly match played at Rome’s Stadio Olimpico, it saw notable players past and present take part, under direction from Arsene Wenger and Tata Martino.

The loudest reception was arguable for Diego Maradona, during a first half in which he set up Roberto Baggio for Scholas’ second of the night, following Juan Iturbe’s opener.
Pupi, captained by Zanetti himself, went in at the break two goals down, but recovered in the second half to eventually win 6-3, thanks to a brace from Andriy Shevchenko, including a panenka penalty, Tomer Hemed and a hat-trick by Mauro Icardi.
