Mauro Icardi discusses the Inter captaincy, and his relationship with Coach Roberto Mancini.
The striker was handed the captain’s armband this summer, after winning the Capocannoniere crown as Serie A top-scorer last season.
“It was a decision made by Mancini, with the consent of the whole club,” Icardi explained to El Grafico in his native Argentina.
“It had the approval of the squad too, of course. It had been spoken about in pre-season, but it wasn’t official until the first Serie A match.

“I’m someone who doesn’t worry about mistakes on the pitch, the truth is that I’m very calm, and I don’t feel the pressure of the armband or my shirt number [9].
“Javier Zanetti? To tell you the truth, we’ve never spoken about being captain, or anything like that. If one day I need advice, I’ll have no hesitation in asking him, because I know he’ll always be available.
“The armband with his name on? I made it with Wanda [Icardi’s wife], specially for the Derby because we thought it was appropriate to make a dedication to Pupi [Zanetti] and all we feel for him.
“He was, is, and always will be an idol for everyone. Luckily we managed to win.”
The former Sampdoria striker also discussed his relationship with Coach Roberto Mancini.
“The relationship with him is very good, but of course, as with any Coach, he sometimes feels the need to raise his voice or be strict.
“His job is to lead the team forward.
“I’m a penalty-box striker, but since Mancini came to Inter he’s changed the way I play a bit. I’m trying to help the team a bit more in the build-up.”
