Inter captain Mauro Icardi caused something of a social media storm by posting “to say goodbye is to grow” – but it’s the lyrics to an Argentinian song.

The Nerazzurri striker has been linked with Real Madrid, but has repeatedly made it clear he wants to stay at San Siro.

Last night though Icardi posted “to say goodbye is to grow” on his official Instagram page, along with the caption “Chau Chau”, a waving emoji and the ‘Epic Brozo’ one.

This immediately caused concern among Interisti, but the words in question are lyrics from the song ‘Adios’ by Gustavo Cerati.

Some on social media speculated he was saying goodbye to Inter, while others maintained he was splitting from wife Wanda.

It was claimed she had changed her Instagram name from Wanda Icardi to Wanda Nara, but that's not true.

This morning’s Gazzetta dello Sport speculates that it could have been a reference to Brozovic, who could be sold this month, but it’s not thought Icardi is on the verge of leaving himself.

He is wanted by Real Madrid, but his €110m release clause is only valid of the first 15 days of July, so if a sale is to happen it’s more likely to be then.

The Beneamata are keen to offer him a renewal with a higher clause, but Corriere dello Sport believes Icardi could consider his options if they fail to qualify for the Champions League this season.
