Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Zlatan Ibrahimovic has put pen to paper on his new one-year contract with Milan.

The 40-year-old Swedish forward is technically a free agent after his deal expired with the Rossoneri at the start of this month, but it quickly became clear that he’d stay for another year, despite the serious knee operation he underwent at the end of May.

Di Marzio details how Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara visited Ibrahimovic at his villa on Lake Garda recently and secured his signature on the new one-year deal. The contract will see him earn a fixed salary of around €1-1.5m net per season, but attached are generous add-ons related to assists, goals and objectives.

Ibrahimovic is hoping to return to action after the upcoming World Cup in Qatar, when the Serie A season will take a between November 14 and January 3.

Last season, the 40-year-old Swede scored eight goals and provided three assists in 23 league appearances.

  1. Signing of the summer for how he contributes to the team in many ways. Brilliant. Hopefully the next contract he signs is as a coach at Milan.

  2. Ibrahimovic is at his twilight. 1M means nothing in football for a player like him.
It just shows how big the mutual respect the club has on him and vice versa.
I hope he can retire well with Milan.
    Welcome back Ibra!

  3. Excellent. That’s lower than I expected in base pay and no matter how high the performance bonuses are, when those hit he’ll have earned them.

Fantastic news that he’ll be in the dressing room another year. You know he’ll stay hungry, and occasionally tell players off, like he did Hakan – ‘I don’t understand you.’ lol.
