Although Milan coach Stefano Pioli has claimed the Swede would try to recover in time for the last game against Atalanta, several reports in Italy suggest Ibrahimovic won’t return to the pitch with the Rossoneri this season.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Ibra has had a knee specialist consultation with Professor Volker Musahl in Pittsburgh.
He is the same surgeon who performed surgery on the Sweden international's knee in 2017, when he was playing for Manchester United.
The paper reports Ibrahimovic must decide whether to continue with conservative treatment or undergo surgery that would force him to miss the Euros.
This second option would also have consequences on Milan’s next season.
Ibrahimovic has recently signed a €7m-a-year contract extension, but according to the paper, his salary can decrease depending on how many games he misses next season.
The 39-year-old skipped 22 Serie A games due to injuries this season and will miss two more as he will sit out of the following two matches against Cagliari and Atalanta.
