According to La Repubblica, Milan talks over the return of Zlatan Ibrahimovic will also cover potentially acting as a caretaker manager with Ignazio Abate in case Stefano Pioli is sacked.

Ibrahimovic has been in confirmed negotiations for a new role at the club for many weeks, practically since the moment he decided to hang up his boots at the end of last season.

He told Sky Sport Italia only yesterday that they were “talking and we’ll see what happens.”

Now La Repubblica newspaper claim that the delays are also to help pave the way for a potential change of management before the end of the season.

The 3-2 defeat to Atalanta practically ended any Scudetto ambitions and they risk going out of the Champions League with Wednesday’s trip to Newcastle United.

If Pioli were to be fired, the most likely scenario would see current Primavera youth team coach Abate promoted to caretaker.

However, this report suggests that Ibrahimovic would be right by his side on the bench and in the locker room, acting as a direct line to owner Gerry Cardinale.

Ibrahimovic has said he is not eager to become a coach, but the Rossoneri might hope to change his mind with this approach.
