But the issue will not prevent him from remaining alongside his teammates in the decisive moment of the Rossoneri’s season.

A win over Atalanta will secure a place in the Champions League next season and Stefano Pioli would of course have wanted the 39-year-old in the matchday squad.

But La Gazzetta dello Sport reports the former Inter and Juventus striker’s leadership can still be fundamental.

Zlatan will carry out his knee therapies and then watch the training session from the sidelines. From tomorrow until Saturday, there will be a mandatory lunch at Milanello and Ibra will stay close to his teammates and make his presence felt in the dressing room too, where he will try to give valuable advice to all the players.

The striker is of course expected to be at the Gewiss Stadium on Sunday and many of the Diavolo’s players have underlined the importance of the veteran after his return to Serie A.

Ibrahimovic scored 15 goals in 19 Serie A games this term and has contributed to the club’s return to fight at the top of Italian football.

But the ageing star, who has recently signed a new deal until June 2022, has struggled with injuries for most of the campaign.

His influence at Milanello, however, cannot be questioned and the Sweden international will hope to contribute from the stands in Bergamo.
