Zlatan Ibrahimovic is growing increasingly important to the Milan project after returning to the club in a backroom role.

The former striker spent the final three and a half years of his playing career with the Rossoneri, hanging up his boots at the end of last season. He proved himself a key figure in the dressing room, helping the younger players as the team lifted the Scudetto in the 2021-22 term.

Only months after retiring, Ibrahimovic decided to return to Milan in a backroom role, officially becoming a senior advisor to club owners RedBird. He has already started to carve out a spot for himself at Milanello, being an important reference point off the pitch for his former teammates.

Corriere della Sera via TMW details how Ibrahimovic is continuing to act as a leader for the Milan squad and staff, taking on an increasingly central role to the project. He recently told the press that coach Stefano Pioli is doing ‘a good job’ at the club, who ‘are happy’ with his work.

Whilst the former striker publicly backed Pioli, it’s no secret that he believes Antonio Conte could be the right man to take over in the Rossoneri dugout should a change be made in the summer, preferring the former Chelsea and Juventus boss to the other top candidate, Thiago Motta.
