Ibra vs. Lukaku: Who’s the king of Milan?

Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Romelu Lukaku have scored 30 goals combined in 2020-21, tonight they clash in the Derby della Madonnina for the second time this term.

The Swede scored a brace to help Milan win their first game since 2017 against the Nerazzurri, when Lukaku scored one to make it 2-1 for the Rossoneri.

The two strikers are locked on 12 goals each in Serie A this term, but the 39-year-old Swede has only played half as many games than Lukaku so far.

The Belgian couldn’t help Inter qualify for a place in the last 16 of the Champions League and Inter are eliminated from European football for the rest of the campaign, focusing solely on domestic success.

Lukaku scored in the round of 16 against Fiorentina, whilst Zlatan has yet to open his account in the Italian Cup.

After the Derby della Madonnina in February 2020, Lukaku scored the last goal in a 4-2 win and wrote on Twitter: ‘There’s a new king in town’.

Eight months later, after having helped Milan win the derby in October, Ibra replied to his former Manchester United teammates comment: “Milan never had a king, they have a GOD.”

Looking at the direct meetings ahead of tonight's rivalry in the Coppa Italia tonight, Zlatan has scored nine times in 15 games against his former club Inter.

But the former Juventus striker has been on the losing side in seven out of them. The 27-year-old Beneamata striker, Lukaku, has helped Inter win twice already, but has only played Milan three times so far and has bagged three goals against the local rivals.
