Cagliari director Francesco Marroccu is not surprised that Roma's Victor Ibarbo is injured, as he ‘was not ready to play’.

The Colombian was purchased by the Giallorossi in the closing stages of the winter transfer window to compensate for the absences of Juan Iturbe and Gervinho and the sale of Mattia Destro, but he was diagnosed today with an injury of his own.

Cagliari’s sporting director has shown no sympathy for the Lupi, instead accusing them of playing the player too early.

“With Cagliari he would not have played,” Marroccu is quoted as telling news agency ANSA.

“Roma are free to use him as they like, but with us he did not play because he wasn't ready, and it's no surprise that he picked up another injury.

“Cagliari's position was already perfectly expressed by our doctor and the words of Ibarbo in his Press conference confirmed it,” said Marroccu, in reference to doctor Marco Scorcu's previous statements that the player should not have trained until today's date, and the player's own mention of his postponed medical exams in Barcelona.

Fans have reacted angrily to Ibarbo’s exit.

“For us his transfer was just a mercato operation of the final days, there was no preordained design as some have claimed.

“We did not betray our supporters. The club didn't, nor did the player.”
