The Giallorossi came back from a Davy Klaassen opener to win 2-1 in Amsterdam, the first leg of this Europa League quarter-final.

“It was a difficult match, but we did well, we suffered under pressure and at the end I scored a goal that I really, really enjoyed,” grinned the defender on Sky Sport Italia.

Ibanez felt the need to make up for his earlier error, which had gifted Ajax a penalty.

“I thank Pau for saving that penalty, thank God we also went on to win the game.”

Roma seem curiously to play better in the Europa League than Serie A this season.

“It’s true, but we should always play with this attitude, because every game is important. We’ll go home now and try to build on it.

“It is an important result, we have to work even hard and go forward.”
