“We need organisation, focus, ability to occupy space in the right way, all of that for the full 90 minutes,” said the coach in his press conference.
“We are facing an Atalanta side who have been working together for years, they are the most prolific side in the league and have quality both in the starting XI and coming off the bench. All it could take is a moment’s distraction to change the game.
“I voted for Gian Piero Gasperini as Coach of the Year, because he deserves it, as do the club, team and everyone around them. We’ve prepared for various different tactical eventualities.”
Franck Ribery is suspended, as he was shown a straight red card for a high foot during the game with Genoa.
“It was accidental, he was just trying to protect the ball. It’s disappointing to be without him, but the other lads are giving me guarantees in training.
“Perhaps there are too many expectations on Sofyan Amrabat because of his price-tag, but he is not the player who wins you games single-handed. He also was unable to be with us for pre-season training and had some injuries.”
Iachini had been fired and was brought back when Cesare Prandelli resigned due to the stress, but the Fiorentina bench for next season is up in the air.
“When I arrived, I said that individuals don’t matter, it’s just Fiorentina that counts now. We have to win as many games as possible, to make the President and the fans happy.
“What we need now is to get the points so that we can get the boat back into safe harbour. We will never play for a draw. Then we’ll see where we are at the end.”
