“There were still positive sensations after that game, as the crowd applauded us anyway. Despite the result, we deserved more and perhaps even victory,” said Iachini in his Press conference.
Palermo are fresh from beating Napoli 3-1 and are challenging for a place in Europe.
“Our objective is to secure safety first, then once we’ve achieved that, we can try to aim a little higher. We have many strong points and a few weaknesses too.”
Luca Rigoni is suspended with Enzo Maresca sidelined, but the Coach remained tight-lipped on his tactics.
“We might change system for this game, we might not. I didn’t just use four at the back against Napoli because of an emergency situation, as we practiced this alternative.
“I know Stefano Pioli well and we are friends. We expect to meet an organised Lazio side, so Palermo will need a great performance. They have a lot of individual quality and are strong at both taking men on and on set plays.”
Iachini was asked whether he’d take away the captain’s armband from Barreto if he refuses to sign a contract extension.
“I don’t understand where some questions come from. I am the Coach and I have decided: Barreto is the captain of Palermo, as he represents a focal point for this group.”
Franco Vazquez will be particularly eager to get on the scoresheet today, as it is his birthday.
