The Biancocelesti fought back from a Franck Ribery solo effort to win 2-1, thanks to a very soft penalty awarded for Bartlomiej Dragowski’s challenge on Caicedo and a late Luis Alberto strike.

“It was a very good performance, but we didn’t get the second goal, despite having the opportunities, and didn’t kill off the game,” the Fiorentina coach told DAZN after sitting out a touchline ban.

“Unfortunately, we barely allowed Lazio any chances, but they made the most of two situations where we should’ve been more alert. It’s a pity, as we certainly deserved more.

“Ribery is an extraordinary player, but also a lovely guy and a fine professional. He scored this splendid goal, but we should’ve given him the ball more often and been more determined in the final third. It’s unfortunately an issue we have quite regularly, as we had 21 shots on goal against Brescia and only drew 1-1.

“It’s a pity, as once again Fiorentina deserved a far better result.”

There was controversy around the penalty decision, as Caicedo seemed to be going down before making contact with Dragowski.

“The ball was going wide, let’s just say Caicedo was clever to catch his leg and it didn’t seem like the goalkeeper was trying to catch him at all. It was more than anything the forward going towards the goalkeeper.

“There are regrets, as it was a decisive moment of the match and we were in the lead at the time.”
