Beppe Iachini and Fiorentina feel ‘regrets’ after the 1-1 draw with Juventus. ‘If we didn’t concede that goal straight after the restart…’

The Viola dominated the first half and took the lead through a Dusan Vlahovic chipped penalty, but Alvaro Morata cancelled it out within 31 seconds of the restart with a looping strike.

“It’s a pity, because we wanted to put in a really strong performance and beat a good Juventus side,” Iachini told Sky Sport Italia.

“The first half was very good, but we didn’t maintain it and could even have scored a second goal. Unfortunately, Juventus have players who can decide a game in any situation with a moment of class.

“I am glad we didn’t lose our way, but we were tired towards the end and it became more of a struggle to counter at pace the way we had prepared.

“There are regrets, because if we didn’t concede that goal straight after the restart, we could’ve taken the win.”

It was Cesare Prandelli on the Fiorentina bench when they beat Juve 3-0 in Turin back in December, but Iachini returned when the veteran abruptly resigned.

“After five months, I think the players are more worried than they were at the start of the season. Mentality makes a big difference in this job, we have to work on the things we felt confident about and rediscover our solidity.

“At the same time, we needed to clear our heads, because if you play with tension and anxiety, you will pass the ball backwards and not forwards.

“We have to keep going and try to pick up as many points as possible.”

Franck Ribery was exhausted when substituted in the final stages, especially as it was a very hot day in Florence. Will he remain with the Viola?

“Some decisions are really not up to me, I am just the coach. The club and the player will evaluate the situation. All I can say is that Ribery is a great professional and he must be allowed to concentrate solely on the objective, which is Serie A safety. He’ll decide what to do at the end of the season.”
