Stephan Lichtsteiner of Juventus says he can ‘understand the anger’ of Lazio fans towards him ahead of Saturday’s Supercoppa clash

The 31-year-old left Rome in 2011 after three seasons with the Biancocelesti, but expects to be greeted with whistles when the two sides meet in Shanghai this weekend.

"If you can’t block out the whistles, you better stop,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Unfortunately fans are like this – one day they love you, the next you move teams and they hate you.

"If you can’t block out the whistles, you better stop,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Unfortunately fans are like this – one day they love you, the next you move teams and they hate you.

“I understand the anger, but also the fans have to respect us players: it wouldn’t be nice if I didn’t celebrate a goal with my new club.

“No one can accuse me of having saved a single bead of sweat when I was at Lazio.”

The Switzerland international also believes a three-man defence is the best option for the Old Lady thanks to its relative rarity in European football.

"Before Conte I always played in a four-man defence and I never suffered, but on the other hand a three-man defence is the best for me,” he said.

“How many big European teams do you see playing with 3-5-2?

“It’s difficult for a wing-back to cover the whole flank, to mark [Frank] Ribery and then join in with the attack.

“However, I'm not afraid of anything and I have no problems with any formation, even with ten men.”
