Diego Milito has insisted that Inter should have been awarded a penalty in last night’s Coppa Italia defeat to Napoli.

The Azzurri booked their place in the semi-finals with a 2-0 victory, but only after a controversial incident in the box between the Argentine and Christian Maggio.

“I knew immediately that it was a clear penalty,” the centre-forward told Inter Channel after the San Paolo defeat.

“I was ahead of my opponent and I’m not the kind of guy who throws himself to the ground for no reason.”

Edinson Cavani scored both goals in Naples, but Milito was still pleased with how his troops performed over the 90 minutes.

“We tried to keep Napoli at bay in the first half, whereas we played much better after the break,” he continued.

“We saw a great Inter in the second half, but unfortunately that is football for you.”

Napoli will now face Siena in the last four of the Italian Cup. Juventus will meet either Milan or Lazio in the other semi.
