Hyundai are the latest partner sponsor of FIFA to call for a ‘thorough investigation’ into allegations of corruption over the 2022 World Cup bid.

Qatar’s award of that edition of the international tournament has come under increased scrutiny of late following an investigation by The Sunday Times alleging payments were made to FIFA official Mohamed bin Hammam to gain his support.

Sony, Adidas and Visa have all called for investigative action to be taken on the matter and today have been joined by fellow FIFA sponsor Hyundai.

“We are confident that FIFA is taking these allegations seriously and that the Investigatory Chamber of the FIFA Ethics Committee will conduct a thorough investigation,” a spokesman for the company has said today.

“Hyundai Motor supports football as a sport that brings people together all over the world and firmly believes the World Cup is the ideal platform to fulfill this objective.”
