Lazio target Klaas Jan-Huntelaar won’t start contract talks with Schalke until the end of this year, his club have confirmed.

The Dutch international could potentially be available on a Bosman next summer given that his deal expires in June 2013.

The former Milan man was linked with Lazio last week and his German club have admitted that his future is uncertain.

“We have decided that we won’t have any contract talks before December and there will be no new developments until then,” Schalke director Horst Heldt stated.

“I have had the feeling Klaas-Jan can’t decide at this stage and I will give him the time he needs. My goal is to persuade him to stay at Schalke and to extend his contract.

“We will resume the talks in December, January at the latest, and then I expect a quick decision.”

The 29-year-old, despite problematic spells at Milan and Real Madrid, is also of interest to the likes of Manchester United and Tottenham.
