Marco Rossi was hopeful that Hungary could qualify for Euro 2024 and was thankful that Italy won’t be facing his side.
Hungary have been drawn into Group G alongside Serbia, Montenegro, Bulgaria and Lithuania, giving them confidence of their chances as they push to qualify for the next European Championships in Germany. Italy will fight in Group C against England, Ukraine, North Macedonia and Malta.
Speaking to Rai Sport on the sidelines of the Euro 2024 qualifying draw, Rossi underlined his expectations and hopes for Hungary.
“We hope we can do well in the European Championship, we’re happy not to cross Italy so there will be no problems.
“Expectations are high, we hope to qualify for our third European Championship in a row.”
The Hungary coach then looked back at the recent Nations League loss to Italy.
“Italy are among the best national teams in the world, if you lose to Italy there’s no shame.”
Italy’s group has a lot of emotion behind it, with the Azzurri remembering their Euro 2020 final win over England well but hoping for revenge against North Macedonia after the World Cup play-off disaster earlier this year. Ukraine will have a strong spirit behind them as they fight for a spot at the tournament.
When we were at our lowest, Rossi was busy attacking Italian football. Post two humbling defeats, he has changed his tune.
