Bologna still haven’t received a definitive response from Mats Hummels and have started placing focus on their alternative targets to replace Riccardo Calafiori.

The Rossoblu have cashed in on the talented Italian centre back after reaching a total agreement with Arsenal in recent days, ready to sell in a deal worth around €40m plus €5m in add-ons, allowing them to reinvest in reinforcements for new coach Vincenzo Italiano.

Bologna opened talks with Hummels this month after his decision to leave Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer, drawing up a multi-year deal for the veteran centre back. Medicals and flights were scheduled until he asked for the brakes to be applied, wanting to take a few days to confirm his choice.

Page 28 of today’s Corriere dello Sport underlines how Bologna are still waiting to hear back from Hummels following his recent stop and a final answer is expected in the early stages of next week.

The Rossoblu don’t want to be caught off guard, so have already identified a number of alternative options to strengthen their backline, including Logan Costa, Sikou Niakate, Josip Sutalo, Jayden Oosterwolde, Daniele Rugani, Jaka Bijol and Otávio.
