Roma are still contemplating moves for both Mario Hermoso and Mats Hummels, despite the transfer deadline having closed on Friday evening, while Chris Smalling looks increasingly likely to move to Saudi Arabia.

Smalling out, Hermoso and Hummels in?

The Giallorossi were hoping to add another centre-back to Daniele De Rossi’s squad before the transfer deadline on Friday night, but saw a move for Juventus’s Tiago Djalo fall through a few hours before the window closed.

Recent reports suggest they will still try to sign another defender on the free agent market.

The most likely candidate is former Atletico Madrid centre-back Mario Hermoso, who has also been linked with a move to Galatasaray. Gianluca Di Marzio reports that he is willing to wait for a proposal from Roma.

Roma are also hoping to secure an exit for Chris Smalling. The former England international has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, where the window for signing players from foreign leagues will stay open until September 2.

If Smalling is to depart the Stadio Olimpico, then there is a chance that the Giallorossi go after Hummels in addition to Hermoso, although the club have not yet reached an agreement with either free agent.
