Hull City vice-president talks transfer partnerships with Roma and Juventus

Hull City vice-president Tan Kesler opened up about transfer market partnerships with Roma and Juventus, confirming the Championship side are ‘establishing more relationships like this’.

The Championship is known to be one of the most difficult second tiers in world football, with all teams desperately competing for a spot in the Premier League, something that secures a fortune for participating clubs.

In the summer, Championship clubs spent over €200m on transfers and earnt over €500m in sales, with a key aspect of the market being loan deals and free transfers. For comparison, Serie B clubs spent around €50m and brought in almost €60m.

Speaking to the Yorkshire Post, Hull City vice-president Kesler confirmed the club’s transfer market partnerships with Roma and Juventus, as well as various other clubs.

“In future you might see players coming in from Roma, more from Villa. We’re establishing more relationships like this.

“It’s on hold a little (with Roma, ed.) because we weren’t able to sign some of their players in a very quick-moving market but we’re still in touch. We’ll meet them about future possible players.

“We’ll go again to meet Juventus because they have some very interesting players. They gave us an exclusive tour of players to develop in future, whether to sell, to promote or for our success.

“But it’s not like a catalogue, it’s very in-depth recruitment. […] In the Championship if you can use the loan market wisely, 40 or 50% of your success can rely on that.”

Hull City currently sit 9th in the Championship table after 11 games, picking up 17 points from four wins and five draws. They sit three points behind third place Preston and 11 behind second place Ipswich Town.
