Serie A side Salernitana have emerged as an unexpected contender for West Ham and Italy striker Gianluca Scamacca in the summer and according to Il Corriere dello Sport, the Granata can afford his signature by selling their leading scorer Boulaye Dia.

Scamacca, a former Sassuolo striker is currently on the sidelines after knee surgery undergone in April.

Tuesday’s printed edition of Il Corriere dello Sport (page 21) quotes sources from England claiming the ex-Sassuolo striker is an option for Salernitana in the summer.

Although the Rome-based paper does not confirm Salernitana’s current interest in the Italian striker, it claims that the 24-year-old could be an option for Paulo Sousa’s side especially if their leading scorer Boulaye Dia leaves.

The Senegal international is on loan from Villarreal, but Salernitana will sign him permanently at the end of the season.

Fiorentina and several Premier League clubs are scouting Dia and Salernitana’s asking price is close to €35m. According to the report, Scamacca would be a cheaper replacement given that the Azzurri forward can leave West Ham for €25m.
