Hellas Verona coach Igor Tudor reveals what he did to inspire the incredible comeback from 3-0 down to beat Venezia 4-3. ‘I said my piece and left them to it.’

It was an extraordinary match at the Stadio Penzo, his side trailing 3-0 at the break, but three goals in 15 minutes – and a Pietro Ceccaroni red card – sparked the turnaround, sealed by a Giovanni Simeone screamer.

“We had actually started quite well, but their goal was a surprise and it gave them confidence,” Tudor told DAZN.

“Having said that, we fully deserved to be 3-0 down. I also had to substitute Casale, because he had a stomach bug and that was behind some of his errors.”

What did Tudor tell his players during the half-time break to prompt such a transformation?

“I said my piece, I told them I thought we could turn this around, then I walked out and left them to it. These are strong guys, they’ve got guts, they know what they have to do and it was only right they talk it out between themselves.

“We came out more physically determined and combined that with our quality, but we mustn’t let our guard down again.”

Tudor was shown his wild celebrations on the touchline after going 4-3 up and couldn’t help laughing.

“There was so much love! I was to congratulate all my staff and especially the players who came off the bench and changed the game. We all wanted to write history and take this game home, it makes us very proud.

“This squad has always had quality, but the mentality makes the difference, that and running more than anyone else.”
