Thiago Motta is assessing his options to replace injured centre-back Gleison Bremer, who is expected to remain out of action for at least six months.

Bremer sustained a cruciate ligament injury during a Champions League match against RB Leipzig last night. Juventus said on Thursday that the 27-year-old would need to undergo surgery.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Bremer will remain out of action for at least six months, although Juventus will officially communicate the defender’s recovery time once he has undergone surgery.

The Brazilian centre-back played a crucial role in Juventus’ opening games of the season, starting eight games from eight and contributing to keeping six clean sheets in as many league matches.

So, how could Motta replace him in the coming months?

Pierre Kalulu and Federico Gatti’s defensive partnership in Leipzig last night seems to be the most likely solution, but the coach has other options as well.

Danilo has been struggling with playing time but has primarily been deployed as a full-back. The same is true of Juan Cabal, but Motta said at a recent press conference that he sees the Colombian defender as a centre-back, so he could also be an option to replace Bremer in some games.

Juventus’ next Serie A match is against Cagliari at the Allianz Stadium in Turin on Saturday, October 6.

Bremer broke silence after the diagnosis on Thursday, saying that it will be “a chance to grow up, improve and be back stronger than before.”
