Luciano Spalletti said before Napoli‘s Champions League meeting with Eintracht Frankfurt that he doesn’t trust journalists who were convinced the Partenopei would not finish in the top four in Serie A this season.

Spalletti spoke at a press conference in Germany on Monday, on the eve of the first leg of the Champions League Round of 16 against Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt.

The Partenopei have won 20 of the opening 23 Serie A matches, drawing two and losing one match. They are enjoying a 15-point lead over second-placed Inter and Spalletti was asked how he is dealing with praise from journalists and pundits.

“I don’t trust you, I am still thinking about questions at the start of the season when you thought we wouldn’t qualify for the Champions League,” noted the Italian tactician.

“Now you are saying the opposite. We know we have potential, just like our opponents. Napoli are a strong side, but they [Eintracht] also have chances, it’s 50-50.”
