Prospective Napoli coach Francesco Calzona has agreed terms on a four-month deal until the end of the season, and has decided upon his coaching staff in accordance with the club according to the latest updates on Monday evening.

Current boss Walter Mazzarri is expected to be relieved of his duties ahead of the Partenopei’s Champions League clash with Barcelona on Wednesday, following an underwhelming return to Naples after the departure of Rudi Garcia earlier in the campaign.

It has been a busy day for club President Aurelio De Laurentiis and his senior management team, with several meetings between the Napoli entourage and representatives of both Calzona and Mazzarri held on Monday.

According to DAZN journalist Orzario Accomando, Calzona has now agreed upon the terms of his deal with Napoli. He will stay until the end of the close of the 2023-24 season in June and will bring four or five new faces to the Stadio Maradona dugout along with him.

Simone Bonomi is set to serve as Calzona’s assistant. The pair have previously worked together at Empoli and once previously at Napoli under Maurizio Sarri.

It is a similar story for Francesco Sinatti, who will serve as first team coach under Calzona. He has also worked at Empoli and Napoli under Sarri, as well as under Luciano Spalletti last season.

Marco Brini, currently employed by the Slovakia national team alongside Calzona and Bonomi, will be Napoli’s new chief analyst.

There will also be a place on the first team coaching staff for Gianluca Grava, who currently oversees Napoli’s youth teams as a technical director.

The final new appointment for Napoli will be long-serving former midfielder Marek Hamsik.

Hamsik’s exact role still needs to be decided upon as he does not currently hold a UEFA coaching licence, but it is still expected that he will be involved in some capacity.
