Bari and Cagliari will face off for the final promotion spot in the second leg of the Serie B playoff on Sunday evening, with the winners set to receive millions in additional revenue as a result of securing their place in the Italian top flight for the 2023-24 season.

Fabio Grosso’s Forsinone and Alberto Gilardino’s Genoa claimed the automatic promotion spots in May, leaving Bari, Cagliari, Parma and Sudtirol to fight it out in the play-offs.

After Bari put two past Sudtirol over two legs and Cagliari rose to a 3-2 aggregate victory over Parma in the semis, the remaining promotion candidates played out a 1-1 draw in the first leg of the playoffs’ last stage.

The final showdown wil take place at the Stadio San Nicola on Sunday evening, which could be worth up to €26m to the winning side according to Calcio e Finanza.

Serie A’s television broadcast deal will provide the vast majority of the increase in club revenues for next season, with 50% of takings shared equally among top flight sides.

The remaining 50% of the money from the TV deal is split up depending on factors such as eventual league standings, historical league finishes and the number of paying spectators for home matches.
