Rafael Leao remains at the centre of a dispute between Sporting CP and Lille, but official figures now show exactly how much the Milan forward gave out of his own pocket to help resolve the crisis.

The situation erupted in 2018 when Leao felt he had the right to unilaterally break his contract with Sporting CP because the training ground had been attacked by ultras.

This allowed him to sign for Lille as a free agent and a year later he moved to Milan for €30m.

Sporting are still trying to get the French club to pay the release clause of €45m from Leao’s original contract.

Meanwhile, the Portuguese side released its official balance sheet this week, allowing analysts to see exactly what has happened this year.

Lille have paid a fine of €19.6m to Sporting CP as recompense for the Leao transfer.

However, Leao also gave up €533,000 of his own money, a fifth of the €2.5m per season salary he had at Milan until this summer’s extension.

He has since doubled his salary to €5m per season with the Rossoneri.

Sporting are now satisfied that Leao has paid up, but still want more from Lille.
