Medical tests confirmed that Angel Di Maria suffered a left thigh injury and he could be forced to watch a number of Juventus matches from the sidelines.

The 34-year-old Argentinian winger was brought off by Massimiliano Allegri barely an hour into his Serie A debut on Monday night, having put in a strong shift in front of his new fans. Di Maria scored a goal and provided an assist in the 3-0 win over Sassuolo, but now he’ll have to wait to contribute again.

Juventus’ medical tests confirmed that Di Maria suffered a low-degree lesion in the adductor of his left thigh, which Sky Sports Italia suggests could see him sideline for up to a month. The Bianconeri will re-evaluate his condition in 10 days’ time, but there’s no guarantee that he’ll have recovered by then.

If Di Maria is injured for a month, he’ll be forced to miss Juventus’ clashes with Sampdoria (August 22), Roma (August 27), Spezia (August 31), Fiorentina (September 3) and Salernitana (September 11).

Juventus will be hoping that Di Maria’s next set of medical tests show signs of improvement, especially with fellow new signing Paul Pogba still unavailable.

  1. This is Allegri’s fault. Di Maria felt some discomfort, but Allegri decided to substitute Cuadrado instead of Di Maria in the 60th minute.
